Visibility from invisibility: The role of mentoring in community-based tourism

Introduction In this research, the role of the mentor in supporting entrepreneurial, community and a largely nascent rural tourism industry in Derbyshire is examined. The mentor is the focus in this report. The mentor has a substantial role in providing easily accessible learning to new small-business owners. Tertiary training institutions can learn much from what is currently informally and largely invisibly provided to develop tourism human resources. The researcher takes the opportunity to thank the participants who supported this project. A series of recommendations follow that are based largely upon the experiences of these mentors and protégés and reflect the small but growing body of evidence in practices in mentoring to support and enable tourism in Derbyshire.
